Character Study

 WALT: evaluate the actions of a character in a narrative story.

I read a narrative story called The Force. It had quite a few characters, but the main character was Harper. We then did a character study on the main character. We used Google Drawings to answer some questions.

 

Reflection: I could read the story and understand the characters actions in the story. Some vocabulary words were tricky, so I had to use a dictionary to find the meaning.

Vocabulary

 WALT -  build vocabulary knowledge by reading a range of poems

We had to hunt for nouns, verbs, adjectives and emotive language in different poems. 

 

 Reflection: I could read different poems and found it easy to identify nouns. It was tricky finding verbs. 

Prototec Results

 WALT: Prototec - Know our basic facts off by heart and identify which problems you are having trouble with.

We are learning our basic facts off by heart by using a programme called Prototec. I am currently on Stage ________.

Reflection: I am really good at my 5X and 10X tables. I need to work on 3X tables.

The Treaty of Waitangi

WALT: Read to find information and locate significant towns and cities within New Zealand on a map.

We read all about the Treaty of Waitangi and then answered questions about it. We also had to label towns on a map.

Reflection: It was easy to find answers in the text. I could find clues in the text to help me with the answers. Next time I'd like to complete all the questions.

All About Me

WALT:  Create a quality blog post that reflects a snapshot of yourself, goals and achievements.

We used a template on Google Drawings to add information about ourselves. 

Reflection: I could add a picture of myself and found it easy to change the background to my favourite colour. I even changed the text to something different. Next time I would like to add details to my work.

Te Hiku Manaiakalani Outreach 2 Film Festival 2020

Our theme for the movies this year was “Life in Lockdown” The movies have been played on the big screen at the Te Ahu Cinema in Kaitaia on Monday 19 October 2020. This is one of the lucky movies to be chosen from our school. Congratulations to everyone involved in the production of this movie. Northern Advocate article

WALT: Writing - Write a thank you letter following a formal letter structure 

Tuatara and Kotuku wrote letters to thank Jacinda Ardern. We sent it off and got a really awesome reply. We were super stoked and shared it on our school's Facebook page. A reporter saw the post and came to interview some students. We then made the news!

Beach Day - Similes

WALT: use similes to make our writing interesting.

The waves were like thunder that was crashing on a stormy day.
The sun was as bright as a lamp that shines in your eyes.
The waves were as long as a bus that is filled with noisy children.

Acrostic Poem - Amber

WALT: Use adjectives to describe our personility.

First we had to take a picture and remove the background on remove.bg. I then put the picture on Google Drawings. Then I looked for funky letters for my name. I used a thesaurus to find adjectives that start with the letters in my name.




Reflection: I enjoyed removing the background and choosing a snowy setting. It was easy finding funky letters! It was tricky finding an adjective that starts with "B". Net time, I'd make my sentences a little bigger.

Coopers Beach - EOTC Reflection

On Thursday we went to Coopers Beach for EOTC. First we had to gather at school and then started walking to the beach. It took us about 35 minutes to get there. After arriving at the beach, we had our morning tea. We then got into 4 groups (about 11 children in a group) and went to various activities.
The different activities were, photography, beach cricket, kayaking, paddle boarding and a nature walk up Rangikaptiki. After two rotations we had lunch, then had the other two. After a long day in the sun, we had to walk back to school.





Reflection: My favourite part was.... because..... . Next time I would like to .....

We had to create a Brochure on Google slides. We had to gather and research information.

REFLECTION: We got information put a title and pictures because every Brochure has pictures and we also put it on our blogs so you could see it.

Writing a paragraph about our organs

WALT: We learnt how to write a paragraph using the TEXT format.

We paired up with a friend and had to research about a specific organ. My friend and I chose the heart. We first made a mind map. Then we followed the TEXT to write our paragraph.

This is our paragraph:

The heart is one of the most important organs in your body. Your heart pumps blood all around your body. Your rib cage protects your heart.  The heart is made of four different chambers. The heart is important because it pumps blood around your body, delivering oxygen and nutrients to your cells and removing waste products. ... There are valves between the atria and ventricles that make sure blood flows in one direction through your heart. Your heart is sort of like a pump, or two pumps in one. The right side of your heart receives blood from the body and pumps it to the lungs.

Reflection: I found it easy to research about the organs. I had difficulty with working with a partner. Next time I would like to add more details more details in my writing.

The Ultimate Multiplication Maths Game

REFLECTION: I most enjoyed playing it when I was finished. I helped someone else by embedding their game and putting it onto their blogs.

STOP MOTION: Maui and the Giant Fish

The last week we made animation movies of Maui and the Giant Fish on the iPads with our friends. We used STOP MOTION to create our animation.

Calendar Art - Google Drawings

Tuatara created self portraits on Google Drawings for our 'Calendar Art'. We learnt how to use the 'Colour Pick" extension tool. This helped us match the colours up!

Maths Enlargements

In Maths, we used a grid to to help us enlarge an image. First we drew 1cm lines on top of a cartoon picture. Next, we numbered the X and Y axis. Then, we used the grid to help us draw the lines. Finally, we coloured our picture in.

Matariki Art: Weaving

For the past few weeks, Tuatara has learnt how to weave stars out of flax. We have created an awesome art piece that represents the Matariki cluster.
